Wedding veils are one of our favorite accessories. From simple and elegant to long and statement-making, we find that wedding veils provide the perfect “finishing touch” for any bride.

Most wedding hairstyles and up-dos make it easy to wear a veil. Wearing your hair down provides a bit more of a challenge when it comes to adding a veil to your wedding hairstyle.

Despite being made from soft tulle, cathedral length veils or embellished veils can be a bit heavy. Brides have reached out to us before asking for tips on how to keep their wedding veil from sliding out when wearing their hair down. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to wear your hair down with a wedding veil.

Step 1

Section Off Your Hair

Section off the top of your hair at the crown of your head, as if you’re creating a half ponytail. Once the top layer of your hair is clipped out of the way, use a small invisible hair tie to create a tiny ponytail in the underlayer of your hair. If your hair is exceptionally thin, consider creating a series of ponytails on this underlayer.

Cover the ponytail you created with the top layer of hair that you pinned out of the way. The ponytail you created should be completely hidden by this top layer of hair. The hidden ponytail is what will keep your veil in place with your hair down.

Step 2

Position Your Veil

Your veil will come with a metal comb attached that allows you to secure it into your wedding hair style. Position your veil in your hair by sliding the teeth of the metal comb behind the ponytail you created on the underlayer of your hair. The ponytail will give the veil’s comb something extra to “grip” into.

Step 3

Add Bobby Pins for Extra Security

Use Bobby Pins that are a similar shade to your hair color. Place one on each side of the veil’s comb and secure them in an “X” shape.
